After Metronomic Irregularity

Date
May, 2002

These works start from the example of Hesse's Metronomic Irregularity, translating the system first into language as a description of its system, and then into the performative language of software. The variability of paths between the regular spacing of the grid suggests a profusion of variation - the grid is exploded and parameterized relativized as a structuring mechanism. The possibilities for alternative organizing principles extends serially, pointing towards the infinite:

  1. set of random bezier curve from matrix of points to matrix of points
  2. set of random bezier curves from somewhere on left to somewhere on right
  3. set of random bezier curves from anywhere to anywhere
  4. set of random bezier curve from lower left to upper right
  5. set of random bezier curve from random points with fixed control points
  6. set of random bezier curves where the control points march up one side and down the other
  7. set of random bezier curves where one control point goes in a circle and the other is random with one fixed end point on left
  8. set of random bezier curves where end points are on a circle and control points are random
  9. set of random bezier curve from fixed start point to random stop point with one fixed and one random control point
